ABOUT E-ASSIST

E-Assist is a mobile panic application that is accessible through the web browser of most mobile devices.

The application  is available for both users and responders.

Although created specifically for the informal settlement community of Alaska as an alternative to the current SAPRI Initiative, we hope to be able to promote similar applications and  initiatives in other communities facing similar issues to that of Alaska.

A user application is available that allows community members to initiate a virtual "panic button" on the screen of their mobile devices that will immediately notify a nearby responder of the incident. Users can be logged into the application but may still initiate the panic button if they are not. However having logged in allows the user to notify the responder has to any particulars of that incident as well as to be informed over the status of the response to that incident. A GPS coordinate is captured of the exact position of the mobile device at the time of the incident activation, in this way responders need only travel to that exact location and no referencing is required to identify where an incident has occurred.

A responder application is available to the voluntary individuals that act as responders in the community. Upon receiving an email notification the responder is able to navigate to a web page on their cellular device that allows the responder to view their own location as well as the location of the incident on a satellite map. The responders are additionally able to toggle through layers and popups are available that display incident data to the responder. A responder is additionally able to update their response to an incident request additional responders to an incident and to submit an incident log at the resolution of an incident.

The link to the applications as well as the accompanying E-Assist Web Map website is available under the respective pages of this website.
